Book Review – The Broken Spears

Another of the books acquired from the Alia Book Store in Santa Fe, recommended by the proprietor Jim.

This is an eyewitness account of the death of a civilization – the bloody brutal destruction of the Aztec peoples by Cortes and his Spanish warriors. The authors are a varied group of survivors who lived through the critical events and wrote down what they saw and did. They tell of the arrival of Cortes thru the massacres that followed and the details are often graphic.

You read a few books like this and it gives one, especially this one, a totally different outlook on these events.

It was all for gold; the idea that these Spanish were doing the work of some church is a huge lie and distortion of the truth. The Spanish had a disease….and it could only be cured by gold.
